Caleb's 10th week of life

December 10, 2013

... and there are days when you're just wondering if you're doing this whole mom (parent) thing right.

You look at your little boy (or girl) and think 'how perfect are they?', and you believe making them is the only thing you've ever done right. Of course you realize that God, more so than yourself, made them perfect and whole, not you. God knew of your child long ago and has his future safely secured.

As intimidating as it can feel to be so responsible for such a perfect, precious life, we need not worry but instead pray.
Unfortunately, the emotional state you're in is hard to take captive and your heart begins to ache...

Good days and less-good days. This new parent thing is a ride!

Not too thrilled to be going for a stroller
ride in the cold weather. He'll thank me once
he's sleeping though!
Today I am so thankful for Caleb's grandma in Germany who will come spend time with him while I get my sweat on and errands done, so then I can come home missing him, even more in love than I was when I left him this morning.

So now, after a busy morning of just doing some errands by myself, I am home with my baby; nursing and cuddling and I can't think of a more perfect day :)

SATURDAY!!! Our favorite family day - no commitments to anyone but each other and loads of Daddy-Caleb time! So much Daddy-Caleb time, in fact, that Mommy usually doesn't change a single diaper on Saturdays. Caleb is SO chatty on the changing table, Jason calls it 'The Daily Show with Caleb' and because I get to watch the show all week long and hear all of Caleb's stories and jokes, Jason doesn't want to miss a single opportunity when he can be there.

This Saturday we went for a breakfast date in Mainz (the college town on the Rhine River nearby), where the food is fresh and simple, and they have an English menu :) After breakfast we walked into Old Town where their Weihnachtsmarkt is going on to show Caleb what was going on.

After just a couple hours walking around, it was raining and in the mid-30's, we hopped on the train to head home. Then spent the rest of the day in our pajama's, rearranging furniture, and playing with the bebe! Needless to say, it was a wonderfully spent weekend- we feel so blessed to have the luxury of spending so much time together.

Here's an example of how big our little guy is getting: Last night was the third night in a row he slept for 10+hours! It's been so wonderful, but bittersweet too! We didn't expect him to be so independent to soon... We're praying he keeps with it though so Mommy and Daddy can get in as much rest as possible before he starts rolling and crawling around, which is sure to happen sooner rather than later at the rate he's going!
